Activities of JOA

  • Conduct a field survey and collection of information on actual living conditions of ostomates and provision of these data to appropriate public agencies.
  • Experienced members conduct sharing sessions, postoperative counseling on stoma care, and training courses as part of "Normalization" projects supported by local authorities.
  • Medical professionals conduct training courses, clinical counseling and seminars (entrusted by the same as above), and exhibitions to introduce the most current ostomy pouching systems and accessories.
  • Approach government and local authorities to improve welfare policies for ostomates.
  • Training and dispatching of Ostomy Visitors to ostomates at home.
  • Publication of the JOA Journal bimonthly and other consumer and professional publications.
  • Exchange of information and cooperation with national and international ostomy-related organizations and agencies.
  • Other activities directed toward improvement of ostomates' Quality of Life such as:
  • - A campaign to deepen the general public's understanding of the ostomates' issues and problems.
  • - Appeal for provision of facility for ostomates in the public lavatories.
